Saturday  Dec 7th                                   7pm 

                               TUBACHRISTMAS

This year marks the 40th anniversary for TUBACHRISTMAS concerts/events which are presented throughout the world.  Tuba and baritone/euphonium players of all ages, skill levels, and from all walks of life gather to play Christmas music arranged specifically for their instruments.  TUBACHRISTMAS was conceived in 1974 by Harvey Phillips as a tribute to his teacher and mentor William J. Bell, born on Christmas Day, 1902.  These concerts reflect on our heritage and honor all great artists/teachers whose legacy has given us high performance standards, well structured pedagogy, professional integrity, personal values and a camaraderie envied by all other instrumentalists.

This performance will be the fourth time in five years that the event has been held in Logan.  More information about the TUBACHRISTMAS organization can be found at the TUBACHRISTMAS website: http://tubachristmas.com/.

                           FOUR SEASONS THEATRE   

   selections from the Musical "A Christmas Carol"

     

Four Seasons Theatre Company began in 2011 with its first production of the musical “A Christmas Carol”.  This year is their third annual performance of what is becoming Cache Valley's holiday tradition.  The company is ecstatic to have Scott Hunsaker returning for the third time to play Ebenezer Scrooge.  Scott is an accomplished singer and performed for years with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.  The cast is made up of almost 80 talented performers of all ages from around Cache Valley.  This concert performance marks the half-way mark of a two week run of “A Christmas Carol”.    The Four Seasons Theatre Company will present some classic holiday carols, as well as several selections from their heart-warming production “A Christmas Carol”.  The presentations will include both large and small groups as well as solos.

                             THE TOWNE SINGERS  

The Towne Singers, Logan’s longest-running mixed-voice choir, will present a wide variety of Christmas music, from classical to contemporary jazz, including several choral numbers from Handel’s  Messiah, a medley of traditional Christmas carols and several popular Christmas songs.  The choir is directed by Gary Poore and accompanied by Teri Duncombe on the piano and Brandon Clayton on the organ. Brandon is the organist at the First Presbyterian Church and also performs for the Logan Tabernacle Concert Series and is a guest organist on Temple Square in Salt Lake City.  Guest artist, Kermit Herd will also perform several popular Christmas songs. Kermit has performed over the years in a variety of venues and roles in several States, including Utah, New York, Michigan, Ohio, Montana, Wyoming, Pennsylvania, and Washington.

               Christmas with the Hubbard Family 

The Hubbard family will provide an evening of music and Christmas cheer. Mostly raised on classical, they will perform piano works by Chopin and Haydn, Bruch violin concerto, Bach cello suite, and Christmas ensemble music. The Hubbard family members are Hayden(16, piano), Nina (flute), Ellie (11, cello), Erika (14, piano and violin), Kelly (piano) and Jane (8, piano and violin).  The family has been busy with many soccer games and practices, music lessons and rehearsals in Logan and Salt Lake City.  Now they are happy to stay home in Logan to share some Christmas cheer.

                         The Westminster Bell Choir   

     

Using four octaves of English handbells and four octaves of chimes, the 18 members of the Westminster Bell Choirs will fill the Tabernacle with the sounds of familiar Christmas hymns and carols. The two choirs will use a variety of techniques to enliven such sacred and secular favorites as “Away in a Manger,” “It Came Upon the Midnight Clear,” and “Go, Tell It On the Mountain.” The concert will also include a piece by the Runaway Bell Quartet; an appearance by the First Presbyterian children’s bell choir; an opportunity for the audience to sing along with the bells; and special music by talented friends Kermit Herd and Elisabeth Evans. The Westminster Bell Choirs are interfaith groups sponsored by Logan’s First Presbyterian Church.

Inter-Faith Thanksgiving Program

Cache Community Connections is a civic and interfaith council in Cache Valley. Cache Community Connections is a group of local religious, civic, and community leaders in the valley who first came together to organize an interfaith memorial service following the tragic events on September 11, 2001.  Working together was such a positive experience that the group agreed to continue meeting monthly to foster understanding and cooperation among all religious groups in Cache Valley.  This is the eleventh annual Thanksgiving service in Cache Valley.  Thanksgiving, a holiday that belongs to all Americans, offers a wonderful opportunity to listen and learn, hearing the diverse voices of our valley giving thanks as one community.  We offer our sincere thanks to all the participating faith communities, groups, and individuals who make this celebration a special one.

World Cultures Night Program and Beyond

October 11th, Friday 7pm 

2nd Annual World Cultures Night

Several nation’s flags will hang from the balcony on Friday October 11^th at 7pm in the evening as another World Cultures Night program begins.  The Concert and Lecture Series Committee, sponsored by Cache Community Connections, is bringing to the LOGAN TABERNACLE  a unique multi-cultural event including music from several different countries of the world. Performers include people from Cache Valley, both very new and also long-time residents.          All are welcome to enjoy this unique FREE concert. 

INDIA

The Singh Family has lived in Logan for 10 years.   The oldest, Bhavna is married and attending USU, graduating in May.  Bharti is attending BATC, Rossy and Subham go to Logan High School and  Suraj, 13, attends Mt Logan Middle school while the youngest, Paul(8) is in the 2^nd grade. They have performed this past year at USU, at a Muslim Holiday Festival in Murray, at Logan High School and also Legacy House. Bhavna and Bartja are the choreographers and teachers and they are glad to add Suraj and Paul to their family group of dancers.

 BRAZIL  Christopher Neale, daughter Julia  with Eric Nelson 

Christopher Neale, professor of engineering at Utah State University, is a native of Brazil where he completed degrees in Civil Engineering and Classical Guitar. He studies contemporary Brazilian music and is a member of the Evening in Brazil band providing the Brazilian guitar beat to the ensemble’s music. Julia Neale is a member of the Cache Children’s Cantate Choir and loves singing with her dad.  

Clarinetist and Saxophonist Eric Nelson has been a member of the Lightwood Duo since its inception in 1992. He has also been active as a freelance musician in the Salt Lake area, and has performed with the Utah Symphony, Utah Chamber Artists, Ballet West Orchestra, and Contemporary Music Consortium, and in New York with the Riverside Trio and Wagner/Nelson Chamber Jazz.  He has taught in the public schools in Utah and Texas for 32 years. He is also a member of the Evening in Brazil band.

 MEXICO

El Grupo Azteca 
(The Aztec Dance Group)
This dance troupe of Latino teens, directed by Reyna Delgadillo,  started the group because they wanted to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe and also because there were no other Aztec dancers in the valley. They've performed at St. Thomas of Aquinas Church in Hyde Park, St Peter Church in Franklin, Idaho, and also at the Willow Creek Retirement Home and The Loaves and Fishes in 2013.  Dancers are Claudia Delgadillo, Reyna Delgadillo, Fatima Delgadillo, Tessy Delgadillo, Blincia Trujillo, Virginia Hernandez, Jessica Chavez,  Jorge Coria

CHINA

Jennifer Jin came to Logan this August as her husband completes his studies at USU.  Prior to this, she was an accomplished violin teacher in Shanghai, China.  Jennifer received the BA degree from the Shanghai Normal University and the MA degree from the Kiev Conservatory in Kiev, Ukraine, both specializing in violin performance and teaching.

IRELAND

An Tús Nua Irish Dance Academy is under the direction of Terena Lund, TCRG, a member of CLRG of Dublin, Ireland.  Their repertoire is authentic, traditional Irish dance.  With dancers ranging in age from 3 - 20 and over; girls as well as boys; therefore there is a wide variety at An Tús Nua. Performances include Natalie MacMaster, The Aaron Ashton Band, and Wicked Jig along with many others.  Dancers at An Tús Nua compete in local, regional, and national competitions.

SCOTLAND

Representing Scotland with his talent in bagpiping is Kevan Saunders.  Kevan began bagpiping when he was 16 years old in the Payson High School Bagpipe Band in Payson, UT.   At the age of 17 he competed as a soloist in Las Vegas, Nevada; Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and Various Utah Highland Games.  In addition to playing as a soloist he also competed with a Community Band: "White Peaks Centennial Pipe Band".  Kevan, who is from Ogden, though his grandparents live in Cache Valley, believes that, “Music, especially from the bagpipes, is amazing and healing.  I'm glad to be a part of something that affects people because people today need to be affected in good ways.” ,  

ASIA     

Born in Cambodia, Xavier Hay is now 14 years old and an eighth grader at Mount Logan Middle School.  He began studying martial arts at the age of four and is now a 2nd degree black belt in Kyuki-do from AKF Martial Arts of Cache Valley with Mark Allman.  He also has a green belt in Kyu Shin Ryu karate under Sensei Gary Conners.  Xavier will be performing a sword routine called Jung-do.  Jung-do is a required form for 2nd degree black belt in the art of Kyuki-do.  It was adapted from Haidong gumdo or Korean art of the sword.  It is longer than most sword forms and is unique in a lot of the movements.  It takes months or years to master and is a very beautiful sword form or “kata.” The inward meaning of the form is "right thinking, right doing" or pure thoughts lead to pure life.

After the concert, the audience and performers are invited to socialize in the multi-purpose room at St Johns Episcopal Church which is across the street from the Tabernacle. International refreshments will be served.
