Cache Community Band
Daines Concert Hall-USU Campus

The Cache Community Band (CCB) has been serving Cache Valley and its woodwind, brass, and percussion instrumentalists since 1979.  The CCB is comprised of three groups - The Cache Wind Symphony, Parade Band and Big Band. In 2016, the CCB integrated with the Music Department at USU to increase exposure and performance opportunities. The Wind Symphony, under the leadership of USU band directors Dr. Thomas Rohrer and Dr. Lane Weaver, performs five times each year and often combines their concerts with local high school bands or USU music groups. This interaction provides a unique opportunity for young musicians to share the joy and impact of music with adults that are continuing their musical pursuits.

Josiah Cordes, Cello

A native of Lewiston, Utah, Josiah Cordes began playing the cello at the age of 12. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from Utah State University, a master’s from the University of Northern Colorado, and a doctorate from the University of Kansas, all in cello performance. He has a passion for bringing little-known music to audiences, whether unearthing undeservedly obscure repertoire from the distant past or premiering pieces that explore new aspects of his instrument. Josiah currently resides in Logan where he directs a private cello studio and teaches for Mountain West String Academy.

Bernice McCowin and Friends

Bernice is 96 years old and brings her wisdom and enjoyable speaking ability from her life’s 96 year journey (and counting!). She is still on the Utah Court Roster as a mediator. But now she mostly receives calls for information explaining the benefits of the process for many. This witty, inspirational lady will bring ideas of how to continue to enjoy those senior years. 

We’ll also throw in some wisdom ( that word used lightly!) from a couple of other age groups. Carol Foht will share some thoughts on life in the “70s during the 20s”. Evan and Sherma Riggs will share their experiences on keeping young in their 80s. Humor helps keep us young so we thought this could give you some laughs and some thoughts on “Keeping Your Hearts Young!” Holly Conger will perform two entertaining songs: “Keep Your Heart Young” and “The Older I Get.”

Kyra Moon

Kyra Moon is a native of Providence, Utah. She has been playing piano and composing music her whole life and loves to arrange music in different styles. She has become known for taking requests for piano improvisations from the audience, especially for Disney and Christmas songs. Her hymn arrangements have been performed by people across the country, and her music has also been performed on Temple Square. Kyra and her husband have four boys and one girl.

Reflections

Reflections was formed in 1975 to give 6 local women an opportunity to sing.  Over the past 45 years more than 200 women, now chosen through audition, have been part of the group sharing the joy of music.  The 25 current members are from Cache and Box Elder Counties who love to perform different genres of music.

Banjo vs. Piano

The former step-mother-step-son pair combine their talents in their once-a-year duo performance, including humorous stories from their blended-family days and musical histories as well as much improvised playing. Jordan, raised in Cache Valley discovered his love for the banjo at age 12 and has won numerous competitions over the last 20 years. Step mom Lezlee Hales Monroe, a Logan native and current resident of Clearfield is a singer-songwriter and has created multiple albums of music as well as performs in two Salt Lake based bands.

Holly Conger has been playing music in Cache Valley for many years both solo and with her band Juniper Junction. She is the art teacher at CCID Charter School in Providence, Utah. She lives in Providence with her husband Ryan and their two daughters: Lydia and Violet.  She sings original songs and chart topper cover songs spanning over the past century.

Cache Valley Men’s Chorus, formerly the Imperial Glee Club, was founded and has been performing in Cache Valley since 1916. Directed by Jerry Vanderdoes and accompanied by Merrilee Broadbent, this group is comprised of talented and versatile singers. Come enjoy the uniquely beautiful and powerful sound of a great men’s chorus.

Utah Peaks Players

A Suzuki Ensemble is a multi-age string group based in Utah County. Currently there are violinists, violists and cellists ranging in age from 8-17. This group was created for the purpose of enhancing performance skills and instilling a lifelong love of music in young musicians by building friendships and creating memories, through reimagining the universal Suzuki repertoire and more. The primary teachers are Lauri Driggs, Terry Fulwider, Erica Hardy and Nicole Macias.

Darren Parry
Darren Parry is the former Chairman of the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation.  Darren serves on the Utah Humanities and the PBS Utah, Board of Directors. He attended the University of Utah and Weber State University and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education. Darren is the author of “The Bear River Massacre; A Shoshone History” and teaches Native American History at Utah State University. He lectures around the country on Native American issues surrounding history and Indigenous views related to sustainability. He recently gave a lecture at the University of Copenhagen and spoke about Indigenous views to Climate and Environment. His passions in life are his wife Melody, 7 children and 17 grandchildren. His other passion is his Tribal family. He wants to make sure that those who have gone before him are not forgotten.

Cristina Edlund & Irv Nelson.Cristina Edlund & Irv Nelson are a vocalist/piano duo who share a love for classic songs through the decades. Their performance will take you back in time to some of the best songs ever recorded, that will please the ear, touch the heart, and bring back fond memories. Cristina is one of northern Utah’s favorite vocal artists. She specializes in the smooth sound of the classic vocalists of the 40s, 50,s and 60s. When she was at USU, Cristina sang with the Jazz Orchestra, Jazz Voices, Chamber Singers, and Jazz Night at the Skyclub. Irv Nelson is a pianist, guitarist, bassist, and vocalist who also performs with Relic Acoustic Band and other groups. He is a composer and arranger whose work has been performed by solo artists and choral groups around the world.

Karla Axtell

Karla Axtell  received her BFA in piano from Utah State University.  An accomplished piano teacher and organist she has accompanied the Cache Children’s Choir, American Festival Chorus, Cache Symphony Orchestra and Nutcracker Ballet.  No matter the instrument, piano or organ, Karla is superb!  She is always a hit on the Noon Concerts.  Karla is married to Bruce Axtell with eight children and 23-going on 26- grandchildren.

Mark Gibbons

Mark Gibbons grew up on a dairy farm in Lewiston Utah. They milk 600 cows and farm 1200 acres of ground. He has been married for 42 years to his sweetheart Shanna. They have three wonderful sons. Great Daughter-in-laws, and eleven grandchildren. Mark has a great family and a great life. He loves to sing and has had the opportunity to perform across the U S.

Logan Music Academy

Logan Music Academy is Logan's most prominent music school, serving more than 300 students of all ages who travel from as far away as Brigham City and Idaho Falls to attend lessons. Students take lessons in voice, piano, violin, viola, drums, cello, guitar, ukulele, and more. Logan Music Academy is very excited to participate in another year of the Tabernacle Concert Series!

Wood Live Music

Bryce Wood has been writing and performing music since 2003.  His music blends storytelling, Americana, folk rock, and strong melodies to create a unique and nostalgic listening experience.  His songs are broadcast on several online radio stations worldwide. He has produced three albums: Alive Again, Man in the Moon, and Red Leaves.  His music can be found on iTunes, Spotify, and other streaming services.

Relic Acoustic Band

Consisting of veteran musicians Steve Roberts, Scott Olsen, and Irv Nelson, Relic Acoustic Band is easy on the ears with excellent musicianship and songs that everyone loves from the golden era of acoustic rock music: Bob Dylan, Neil Young, The Beatles, James Taylor, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, John Denver, and many more. Each of the band members has a wealth stage experience, playing in countless bands over the last 50 years, and they have been playing together for nearly 20 years. With three acoustic guitars and tight three-part harmonies, they paint a delightful musical landscape. The performance is also entertaining, with a relaxed and personable stage style.

Warren Kunz
Warren Kunz, raised in Cache Valley, majored in piano performance and minored in voice at USU. For 30 years in Seattle, he taught more than 500 private students as a vocal coach and a piano teacher. Warren also loved teaching at a community college and was active in two music teachers’ associations, receiving the State’s Hall of Fame teaching honor. Warren became fascinated with world music recordings in the 1980s and began collecting and learning to play instruments from around the world. That led to a desire to understand the cultural significance of each instrument and, eventually, to return to graduate school. He completed his Master’s degree (M.M) last year with a concentration of World Music. Warren now teaches a USU world music course (MUSC 1195) and a world music class to Summer Citizens. He hopes to create or support world music ensembles in northern Utah. At this noon lecture/demonstration, Warren will discuss the basics of some world music cultures and demonstrate several instruments, including flutes and numerous percussion instruments.

Connie Jenson
Constance Jensen holds masters degrees from the University of Utah in Vocal Performance and from California State University San Bernardino in Voice and Choral Conducting. As an instructor at Utah Valley University, she taught Voice and conducted the UVU Concert Choir. With a love of both classical and jazz music, Constance regularly sings jazz at The Shops at Riverwoods and other venues such as the City of Orem Arts in the Park Series. She performed an Alumni Solo Artist Recital at Cal State San Bernardino and has been a featured vocal soloist with UVU’s jazz ensemble, wind ensemble and the Wasatch Chorale. Honors include the Adjunct Faculty in Excellence Teaching Award at UVU in 2021 and Vocalist of the Year at Cal State San Bernardino for two years.

Craig Mecham

As an independent singer/songwriter Craig Mecham has spent more than five decades performing his unique slice of life ballads to audiences of all ages. Recently, his song “Ain’t No Quit” spent 3 weeks at #1 and his song “Don’t Chain Me” spent 2 weeks at #1 on the HUGS Unsigned Artist International Chart where he was also nominated “Male Artist of the Year for 2021 and 2022”. He has had several other songs in the top 10 on various national independent charts. He was also a two-time finalist at the prestigious Red Lodge Songwriter Festival.  His ability to weave music and lyrics into a very personal experience will have you roaring with laughter one minute and quietly dabbing your eyes the next.

Axel Hoffman

Axel Hoffman will start his senior year at Sky View High School this fall. He started playing the cello with the Mountain West String Academy when he was 9 years old. For the past eight years he has worked hard to develop his talent. During the past two summers Axel participated in the Fry Street Quartet Chamber Music Festival. He will be a participant again this summer. He was a member of the Utah All-State Orchestra for the past four years and was the principal cellist for the 2023 Utah All-State Orchestra. He was also the principal cellist for the Sky View Chamber Orchestra and the Cache Youth Orchestra during the 2022-2023 school year. Axel won the 2023 Cache Symphony Concerto Competition and performed as a soloist with the Cache Symphony Orchestra. He is a student of Alexis Haviland and the son of Perry and Ginger Hoffman.

The Fry Street Quartet is an American string quartet in residence at the Caine College of the Arts at Utah State University. They perform at festivals and venues around the world, earning numerous awards in the process. The Fry Street Quartet formed In 1997, naming itself after their first rehearsal space in Chicago.  They are always outstanding!

Wade Evans

Wade Evans is a multi-instrumentalist who has traveled the world in search of The Sound. Among the numerous instruments on which he performs are the Turkish oud, which he learned while wandering the middle east as a minstrel; the Indian sitar, which was taught to him by master sitarist Pt. Shivnath Mishra, under whom he has studied- and continues to study- in Varanasi, India since 2003; and the mandolin, on which he interprets unaccompanied Bach, Irish traditional, medieval, and Balkan melodies. Wade is a Cache Valley native.

David Jones

David Jones, a native of Aberdeen, Maryland, began his love for the organ at age 10. He is currently a senior in the organ program at Utah State University. His teachers have included Lynn Thomas and Dr. Neil Harmon. For the last 10 years, he has served as church organist for various congregations in the U.S. and Germany. He regularly performs with and has been featured in performances and recordings by the USU Chorale, USU Chamber Singers, and American Festival Chorus and Orchestra. He has also performed with the Towne Singers, and is active as a collaborative pianist within the community.

Ella Bowen /Irv Nelson

Ella Bowen is 14 years old, and recently completed 8th Grade.  She has been bursting onto the scene as a guest artist in the Logan Tabernacle Summer Concert Series and many other events since the age of 11.  This will be her first solo concert, and it is not to be missed.  Ella’s musicianship and personality are years ahead of her biological age.  She has excellent musical expression and a memorable vocal tone.  She also plays piano and guitar.  Ella has great stage presence and a quick sense of humor.  Her song selections and performance style transcend genre boundaries.  She has studied under Irv Nelson for 5 years, and she recently formed her first band with other young musicians in the valley.  Her goal is to touch people’s lives with her music.

Mio Everitt & Friends

Miho Everitt has been bringing together outstanding musicians for many years to the Tabernacle Concerts.  Each performer has extensive training and several have done solo concerts for the Series in organ, piano, trumpet and flute.   From advanced degrees not only in music, but law, financial counseling, soloing with symphonies, accompanying highly acclaimed vocal choirs and instrumental soloists, this talented group will present an extraordinary hour of music.  Not to be missed!

Chris Mortensen

Chris Mortensen is an experienced performer and songwriter. Starting at age 13, he has performed in many bands all over the Intermountain west. Chris was a founding member, bassist and vocalist for the fine country band "Diamondback" from 1988 to 1993. For the past several years Chris has played and sang as a solo act at area cowboy gatherings, showcasing his songwriting ability. He is the past president of the Cowboy Poets of Utah, past president of the Utah Chapter of the Western Music Association, and a member of the Cowboy Poets of Idaho. Chris loves to play songs that tell a good story and touch the hearts of the listener.

The Holt Family has enjoyed making music together for nearly fifteen years. Each child began the study of their instrument at around age three. Our performance will include folk, sacred, and classical music performed on the piano, violin, cello, and guitar.  We look forward to sharing the light and joy that music and children can bring!

Hinge Point Music

Kalli, Kassidy, and Kandy, are three sisters that make up the contemporary Christian group Hinge Point.  Their tight sibling harmony gives their music a unique sound.  They write their own original music and also love singing covers of uplifting songs by their favorite artists.  Hinge Point’s music will make you want to dance while filling your soul with hope, peace and love.

Historian Dr. Ross Peterson presents a special Pioneer Day Program, celebrating the original pioneers, the 105-year-old 1st Ward Church and the Ev Thorpe art work and how it all fits into the greater story. Music will also be performed by community members and USU talent.

Kurt/Michelle Olaveson Family

Kurt and Michelle grew up playing music together.  They studied music in college, though Kurt pursued a career in medicine and is a family physician in Cache Valley, and Michelle is a registered nurse. Now married with four little girls who all love to make music as well, the house is never quiet! Vivian, Elsie, and Liesel started playing the violin when they were four years old. With a mix of violins, vocals, and piano, they will be sharing some family favorites they love, as if giving a concert from their own home.

Country Singer
Bob Parsons is a singer songwriter and is well respected as a  musician by many top musicians in Cache County. He is best known for his musical talent as a blues guitar player for the band Blue Blazers. 

He looks forward to sharing a few of his original songs, written over the course of 50 years. He puts the soul in the blues and he's sure to bring an hour of entertainment you won't soon forget.

The Salt Lake Letter Carriers Band

We are the Salt Lake City Letter Carrier’s Band. We have been delighting audiences for over fifty years. As a group of approximately 30 volunteer musicians, we love sharing our broad repertoire of music which includes marches, show tunes, jazz, pop, classical, and patriotic music.
