2012 Christmas Music Series at the Tabernacle

The Christmas Season is coming to Logan and so is the Christmas Music Series.The Concert and Lecture Series Committee, part of the Cache Community Connections sponsor this musical event in December for the entire community to enjoy free of charge.  The performing groups volunteer their talents in the spirit of giving for the Holidays.   We hope you will bring your family and join us the two weeks before Christmas for these great concerts.

     Cache Community Connections is a civic and interfaith council in Cache Valley. Cache Community Connections is a group of local religious, civic, and community leaders in the valley who first came together to organize an interfaith memorial service following the tragic events on September 11, 2001.  Working together was such a positive experience that the group agreed to continue meeting monthly to foster understanding and cooperation among all religious groups in Cache Valley.  This is the tenth annual Thanksgiving service in Cache Valley.  

     Thanksgiving, a holiday that belongs to all Americans, offers a wonderful opportunity to listen and learn, hearing the diverse voices of our valley giving thanks as one community.  We offer our sincere thanks to all the participating faith communities, groups, and individuals who make this celebration a special one.

     The theme for this year's Thanksgiving service is “Feeding Bodies, Filling Spirits”.  We are reminded that there are many within our community and beyond who continue to experience the lack of adequate nutrition—for body and for spirit.  During this year’s Thanksgiving service, we will hear messages of word and music addressing the theme.  

     Our community has recently collaborated in an effort to support the construction of a new building for the Cache Community Food Pantry.  Persons from all walks of life, all faith traditions, and all political persuasions have collaborated to make this valuable resource more accessible and more useful.  We will give thanks for the generosity of a community and celebrate our capacity to work together for our common benefit.

Benefit Concert for the Cache County Food Pantry
John Ribera will conduct a community choir and is in rehearsals starting Sunday October 14th at the Dansante Building at 6pm.  Anyone in the community is invited and encourage to be part of this choir.  Admission to this concert will be one non-perishable food donation.

The World Cultures Night, on October 12, proved to be a wonderful success with over 400 attending and watching 10 performances representing 13 different cultures.  Performers were Cache Valley locals, USU students and one Cache Valley visitor from China.  And the refreshments at St. John's Episcopal Church were delicious.  If you attended, you are welcome to send me comments and even suggested performers for next year's event on this blog.  jkmadsen@comcast.net  Thank you, KM.

WORLD CULTURES NIGHT AT THE TABERNACLE

October 12th, a Friday night at 7pm, will bring a unique and unusual program to the Historic Logan Tabernacle as part of the Concert and Lecture Series sponsored by Cache Community Connections.

      And a surprise for concert attendees....refreshments afterwards! 

Brazilian Dance Group, The Bahianas

The swirls and steps of dancing along with beautiful traditional melodies in song in native costume will be performed on the stage.  Not only different cultures but also different ages of both local and student performers in Cache Valley, will be represented.  

The program committee for this special night wanted to showcase the wonderful differences of cultures that exist in this valley with the unity that comes with the love of music in ALL cultures.  Musical renditions will come from  the countries of Brazil, India, China, Ireland, Chile, Mexico, Tahiti and New Zealand among others.  

The Singh Family

A dance group, The Bahianas, consisting of several local Brazilian women will also perform. Other dance groups include the Singh Family from India, the Pauni "Next Generation" representing New Zealand and Tahiti and also The An Tus Nua Irish Dance Academy, taught by Terena Lund, representing Ireland and Scotland.  Julie ni Hewkin will play the Irish harp as she sings in Gaelic.

Liu Zhong Ling, who is from Bejing China and visiting her daughter in Logan, will sing two Chinese Opera songs.

Isael Torres, a first-generation American whose parents are from Mexico will sing two songs in Spanish, one being his original.  He proudly is serving as a President of a branch of USU Ambassadors.

  

Lindsey Lopez, Miss Cache Valley

Miss Lindsey Lopez, crowned Miss Cache Valley in January of 2012 will perform as well.  She is currently studying Vocal Performance at USU.







Mario Pereyra of the Access and Diversity Center of USU arranged these:  
Polynesian Student Union dancers  from Hawaii, a song from a Chinese student, Daxi, of The Asian Association and the traditional Crow Dance from a member of the Native American Student Council, Albert Packer.   

It will be a colorful, musical extravaganza of culture that the entire family will enjoy.  Watch the Cache Magazine that comes with the Herald Journal for more information.  The concert is FREE to the public.

Logan Tabernacle Organ Festival

Free Concert Friday, September 28th at 7pm



Six premier Northern Utah organists and the Logan Tabernacle Organ will be featured.



The Northern Utah organists include Karla Axtell, Lynn Thomas with Tyler Anderson, Kelvin Smith, Brandon Clayton and Jonathan Rose.   

It is not very often that audience members are able to hear this powerful, majestic instrument.  Please join us at the tabernacle for this unique Cache Valley experience.
