1st week

Monday, May 27 CACHE COMMUNITY BAND

This performance only
 will be at the USU Daines Concert Hall
starting at 12:00 Noon

The Cache Community Band (CCB) has been serving Cache Valley and its woodwind, brass, and percussion instrumentalists since 1979.  The CCB is comprised of three groups - The Cache Wind Symphony, Parade Band and Big Band. In 2016, the CCB integrated with the Music Department at USU to increase exposure and performance opportunities. The Wind Symphony, under the leadership of USU band directors Dr. Thomas Rohrer and Dr. Lane Weaver, performs five times each year and often combines their concerts with local high school bands or USU music groups. This interaction provides a unique opportunity for young musicians to share the joy and impact of music with adults that are continuing their musical pursuits. 

 

     Tuesday May 28th    ERICA PEART 

Erica Peart discovered her passion for singing at the young age of 6 and started playing guitar at age 14. In 2023, she started playing live in Cache Valley both solo and as a guest vocalist with the “Off Center Band”. Recently, she  has ventured into crafting her own country-inspired compositions, weaving heartfelt narratives into her original works. She performs original country music alongside popular music among many genres. She will be accompanied by Jay Davis on rhythm guitar and Chris Mortensen on bass.

 Wednesday May 29th 

HINGE POINT

Kalli, Kassidy, and Kandy, are three sisters that make up the contemporary Christian group Hinge Point.  Their tight sibling harmony gives their music a unique sound.  They write their own original music and also love singing covers of uplifting songs by their favorite artists.  

Hinge Point’s music will make you want to dance while filling your soul with hope, peace and love.

 

Thursday May 30th               KYRA MOON

Kyra Moon is a native of Providence, Utah. She has been playing piano and composing music her whole life and loves to arrange music in different styles. She has become known for taking requests for piano improvisations from the audience, especially for Disney and Christmas songs. Her hymn arrangements have been performed by people across the country, and her music has also been performed on Temple Square. Kyra and her husband have four boys and one girl. 

 Friday May 31    WASATCH BACK 

Wasatch Back is a band of local musicians who are seasoned veterans of the music scene in the Intermountain west. They specialize in covering classic country and classic rock hit songs from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Great musicianship and tight harmony vocals characterize the sound of Wasatch Back.

                JUNIPER JUNCTION

Juniper Junction plays Folk/Americana with a Bluegrass twist! Holly Conger fronts the band singing everything from Patsy Cline to Dwight Yoakam, She is backed up by the Gibbons boys and their dad Wally Gibbons who provide a solid accompaniment, as well as vocal harmonies.

Americana singer-songwriter John Elwood Morgan is a true American troubadour, sharing his music everywhere from big stages to small coffeehouses. John's sound is a musical confluence of the Appalachian mountain range and the southwestern desert, pulling influences from folk, bluegrass, country, and blues to craft a unique sound and authentic stories in song. 

 Wednesday, June 5th      HOLLY CONGER

Holly Conger has been playing music in Cache Valley for many years both solo and with her band Juniper Junction. She is the art teacher at CCID Charter School in Providence, Utah. She lives in Providence with her husband Ryan and their two daughters: Lydia and Violet.  She sings original songs and chart topper cover songs spanning over the past century. 

 Thursday, June 6th   SADIE MORTENSEN

Sadie Mortensen was raised in Logan, Utah with four other siblings. She started playing guitar and performing at the age of 12. In high school she was the lead singer in the band Mjölk. Sadie recently returned from serving a mission for the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Berlin, Germany. Since being home, she’s been recording her first album of originals and continues to play local venues and restaurants.

 Friday June 7th  CACHE VALLEY MEN'S CHORUS

Cache Valley Men’s Chorus, formerly the Imperial Glee Club, was founded and has been performing in Cache Valley since 1916. Directed by Jerry Vanderdoes and accompanied by Merrilee Broadbent, this group is comprised of talented and versatile singers. Come enjoy the uniquely beautiful and powerful sound of a great men’s chorus.

Musicality performs upbeat concerts of classic oldies, love songs, patriotic numbers and everything in-between! Personal stories highlight the impact music has on our lives and gives a unique touch to this group's talented presentation. Violin, flute, tambourine and piano accompaniment add to the fun and energy Musicality generates during their performances. 

 Wednesday June 12th     BANJO VS PIANO

The former step-mother-step-son pair combine their talents in their once-a-year duo performance, including humorous stories from their blended-family days and musical histories as well as much improvised playing. Jordan, raised in Cache Valley discovered his love for the banjo at age 12 and has won numerous competitions over the last 20 years. 

 

Step mom Lezlee Hales Monroe, a Logan native and current resident of Clearfield is a singer-songwriter and has created multiple albums of music as well as performs in two Salt Lake based bands.

 Thursday, June 13th    RICARDO LARANJA   

                                         FAMILY

Ricardo Larkana Ricardo is a multi-talented as a producer/composer. He is the Director of Multimedia Operations at USU.  began his teaching/mentoring career at an early age, taking on piano students of all ages and backgrounds at the age of 12. He also began performing as a professional musician in Brazil at that same age. He has always been interested in technology and stays abreast of the latest audio and video technologies available. Ricardo will play a variety of music on the keyboard as his wife, Juila and daughter, Aline sing a mixture of jazz arrangements, gospel and popular music.  His son, George, will play bass guitar and saxophone.

 Friday, June 14th  KARLA AXTELL

Karla Axtell has loved playing piano all her life! She received her piano degree at Utah State University in 2008, taught piano for many years, and accompanies many different choirs and orchestras.  She loves performing on the Logan Tabernacle organ.  Karla is married to Bruce Axtell with eight children and 26 grandchildren.

                          HARTSTRINGS

"HartStrings performs a repertoire of sacred, classical, folk, and Broadway songs – anything from Orange Blossom Special to Lloyd Weber’s Pie Jesu. The group consists of Brody and Corine Hart and their six children. Brody was a member of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square and Corine is a member of the Orchestra at Temple Square. Makenzie and Eliza, the two oldest children, are currently studying violin performance at The Juilliard School in Manhattan. They have soloed in concert with Kurt Bestor and Jenny Oaks Baker. Makenzie made her debut performance in Carnegie Hall in 2023. HartStrings has performed numerous times on Temple Square for the Families Making Music concert series, Temple Square Concerts in the Park summer concert series, and First Night Celebration. In 2015, HartStrings was asked to perform a Christmas concert for the First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. HartStrings performs throughout the state of Utah and has performed together as far away as India, China, Thailand, Singapore, and Brazil."

 Tuesday, June 18th   MIKE CHRISTIANSEN ON GUITAR

Dr. Mike Christiansen founded the guitar program at USU and was Director of Guitar Studies at USU for 39 years. His repertoire ranges from classic rock and pop to classical. He has performed from coast to coast doing concerts and providing background music for corporate events, restaurants, and receptions. He has recorded music for television and film, including the guitar work on the film, Surviving Picasso starring Anthony Hopkins.

Mike is currently Director of Curriculum for Consonus Music.

 Wednesday, June 19th   CRISTINA EDLUND AND IRV NELSO

Cristina Edlund & Irv Nelson are a vocalist/piano duo who share a love for classic songs through the decades. Their performance will take you back in time to some of the best songs ever recorded, that will please the ear, touch the heart, and bring back fond memories. Cristina is one of northern Utah’s favorite vocal artists. She specializes in the smooth sound of the classic vocalists of the 40s, 50,s and 60s. When she was at USU, Cristina sang with the Jazz Orchestra, Jazz Voices, Chamber Singers, and Jazz Night at the Skyclub. Irv Nelson is a pianist, guitarist, bassist, and vocalist who also performs with Relic Acoustic Band and other groups. He is a composer and arranger whose work has been performed by solo artists and choral groups around the world.

 Thursday, June 20th   CHRIS MORTENSEN

Chris Mortensen is an experienced performer and songwriter. Starting at age 13, he has performed in many bands all over the Intermountain west. Currently, Chris plays bass and sings in several different local bands. For the past several years he  has played and sang as a solo act at area cowboy gatherings, showcasing his songwriting ability. He is the past president of the Cowboy Poets of Utah, past president of the Utah Chapter of the Western Music Association, and a member of the Cowboy Poets of Idaho. Chris recently completed a cowboy poetry album, “Upon My Horse’s Back.” That album was one of 5 nominees for Cowboy Poetry Album of the Year by the International Western Music Association.

 Friday, June 21st   BEAR RIVER RAMBLERS

The Bear River Ramblers are a country/bluegrass band from Logan, UT. They have been together for 5 years and have performed frequently throughout Northern Utah and Southern Idaho. Their high-energy music and tight harmonies are a favorite at festivals, fairs and corporate events. When they’re all together the band consists of Xavier Hay, banjo and vocals; Anna Anawalt, fiddle, mandolin and vocals; Craig Mecham, guitar and vocals, Paul Mueller, bass and vocals, Sean Salisbury on dobro and Buckley Banham on guitar.  Tuesday, June 25th       DAN TRUMAN  

Dan Truman continues to tour with the popular, award-winning band Diamond Rio as their keyboard player. He is one of the original founders of the band. He along with two of his sons also play in the well-known band Nashville Tribute. We are fortunate to grab him off the road to have him share his talent for our concert series. He performs some of his favorite piano pieces (favorites to the audiences too) and his witt and humor bring entertaining stories of life experiences touring with Diamond Rio and Nashville Tribute.

Miho Everitt brings her warm personality and outstanding skill at piano performance drawing in her audiences with a concert you won’t forget.  She brings together other outstanding musicians who have performed with her for our concert series in organ, piano, trumpet and flute. Get ready for an hour of  extraordinary music.  

 Thursday June 27th   KELIN AND KENDALL

Kelin Gibbons (guitar and vocals) and Kendall Becker (double bass and vocals) are a Jazz duo based in Logan. They cover mainly jazz standards and not-so-standards, along with a few classic pop songs. Listeners can expect high quality musicianship, fun arrangements of recognizable songs, and may even find some new favorite songs! 

 Friday June 28th     HALSEY HOLT FAMILY

The Holt Family has enjoyed making music together for more than fifteen years. Each child began the study of their instrument at around age three. Our performance will include folk, sacred, and classical music performed on the piano, violin, cello, and guitar.  We look forward to sharing the light and joy that music and children can bring!

It all began when Alan decided that playing his tuba alone was no fun. So he started a band! The Cache Valley Good Times Marching Band has been entertaining Cache Valley since 2020 and having a great time doing it! And the audience has a great time hearing it!

July 2nd              ROCKIE RICKS AND FRIENDS

Although Rockie has a PhD in electrical engineering, he took opportunities to perform and accompany on piano and organ, and to compose and arrange music. After retiring, he returned his focus to music and earned a BA in music from USU. One of his compositions took third place in the 2023 Utah Music Teacher's Association composition contest. He has performed in Utah, Idaho, and Southern California. He can perform in a wide variety of genres, but prefers classical, jazz, and show tunes. He has a special way of putting feeling into his music.  

 Wednesday Jul 3rd     OLAVESON FAMILY

Kurt and Michelle Olaveson have always loved to make music, and were able to do it together from a young age, even competing against each other in competitions. Although they continued to study music in college, they eventually pursued careers in medicine; Michelle in nursing and Kurt in family medicine. 

They now have four little girls who all love to make music as well. The house is never quiet! Vivian, Elsie, and Liesel continue to excel on violin and piano, and Jorja (playing since age 3) keeps right up! 
They will be sharing some of their latest favorites from fiddle tunes to classical favorites.

 Thursday Jul 4th     RELIC ACOUSTIC BAND

Relic Acoustic Band Consists of veteran musicians Steve Roberts, Scott Olsen, and Irv Nelson. They perform songs that everyone loves from the golden era of acoustic rock music: Bob Dylan, Neil Young, The Beatles, James Taylor, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, John Denver, and many more. They have been playing together for nearly 20 years. With three acoustic guitars and tight three-part harmonies, they paint a delightful musical landscape. The performance provides great entertainment with a relaxed and personable stage style.

 Friday Jul 5th     UKULELE AND "U"

We will have some good old-time sing-along-songs with YOU, the audience as the main performers! This event will be in collaboration with Logan’s KSM Music store and one of our favorite performers, Anna Anawalt.

KSM will offer 4 free group lessons (limit 6 in a group) to learn some very basic ukulele. You can attend one or all 4 sessions. It will be a first-come-first-serve basis.  Sign up for this will be at the Summer Citizen’s orientation at the KSM booth.

Then you’ll have an opportunity to strut that talent on July 5^th. For those of you who want to give it a try, you can participate in playing a couple of sing a long-songs. If you are already a “seasoned ukulele player”, we’d love to have you help us out. And for our talented singers in the audience, we hope you’ll help keep the music flowing!

 Tuesday Jul 9th           FRY STREET QUARTET

This remarkable quartet - hailed as "a triumph of ensemble playing" by the New York Times is a multi-faceted ensemble. The quartet has reached audiences from Carnegie Hall to London and Sarajevo to Jerusalem, exploring the medium of the string quartet and its life-affirming potential with "profound understanding...depth of expression, and stunning technical astuteness" (Deseret Morning

News). The quartet has a discography that includes a wide range of works, and they have commissioned and toured new works by a wide range of composers. Their collaboration with Dr. Robert Davies, Rising Tide: The Crossroads Project, has been performed more than 60 times in three different countries, and a film version of the project was released in 2020.

The Fry Street Quartet holds the Dan C. and Manon Caine Russell Endowed String Quartet. Residency at the Caine College of the Arts at Utah State University, where they have run the string program in the USU Music Department for more than twenty years.

 Wednesday Jul 10th      CRAIG MECHAM

Craig Mecham has spent more than five decades playing and performing on stages all over the United States including an extended 13-month tour in England where he performed for British Royalty, the Mayor of London, Chiefs of Staff Committee of British Armed Forces, various elected officials, religious leaders and for school children.  

Craig has more than 20 songs in his library of current releases. He recently took 2^nd place at the KSM Songwriter’s Contest and has been a two-time finalist at the prestigious Red Lodge Songwriter’s Festival. He was nominated for the HUGS 24/7 Radio Male Artist of the Year in both 2021 and 2022. His music can be found on Pandora, Spotify, Apple Music and all of the major streaming services.

As an accomplished storyteller and humorist, His ability to weave music and lyrics into a very personal experience will have you roaring with laughter one minute and quietly dabbing your eyes the next.

 Thursday  Jul 11th        BOB PARSON 

Bob Parson is a singer songwriter and is well respected as a musician by many top musicians in Cache County. He is best known for his musical talent as a blues guitar player for the band Blue Blazers. 

He looks forward to sharing a few of his original songs, written over the course of 50 years. He puts the soul in the blues and he's sure to bring an hour of entertainment you won't soon forget.

 Friday Jul 12    FIVE HOURS FROM DALLAS

With roots from Amarillo, TX, Five Hours From Dallas features a dynamic brother and sister duo. Inspired by artists like the Eagles, Chris Stapleton, John Mayer, Eli Young Band, and many others, Emma Todd and Jake Morris are passionate about bringing unique harmonies to classic favorites along with their original music and authentic songwriting. Jake is currently living in Cache Valley and Emma lives in Eagle Mountain.

Tuesday July 16TH           WADE EVANS  

Wade Evans is a multi-instrumentalist who has traveled the world in search of The Sound. Among the numerous instruments on which he performs are the Turkish oud, which he learned while wandering the middle east as a minstrel; the Indian sitar, which was taught to him by master sitarist Pt. Shivnath Mishra, under whom he has studied- and continues to study- in Varanasi, India since 2003; and the mandolin, on which he interprets unaccompanied Bach, Irish traditional, medieval, and Balkan melodies. Wade is a Cache Valley native.

FRY STREET CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL STUDENTS

The Fry Street Chamber Music Festival seeks to create engaged and passionate chamber musicians and citizens through a uniquely personalized and intense environment of study. Private lessons, coaching sessions, and other activities give students the opportunity to learn lifelong skills of collaboration, trust, and communication, all while deepening their musical understanding.

Friday Jul 19th            JOHN DALLEY

John Dalley has been singing starting with school, church and family functions. He taught himself to play guitar when he was 14. In high school, he was singing at clubs in Logan. He auditioned for and got an agent with National school assemblies and was booked in schools and clubs (and some prisons) across the nation. After 80,000 miles a year for 3 years of travel, he settled down and became a factory rep. Now retired he continues to sing at Deer Cliff Inn during the summer plus Franklin County fair, rodeo, 24th fireworks and assisted living performances. He’ll be performing Neil Diamond songs he use to sing on tour.

Warren Kunz, teacher of traditional and world music for USU’s Summer Citizens program, organized this world music concert. This ensemble includes Rebecca Lopez, who will sing Brazilian, Mexican and Argentine songs; Anna Anawalt, who will play accordion, violin and several percussion instruments; and Susy Manning, a Summer Citizen, who will play diverse percussion and healing instruments. Join the four of them as they together take you on a musical trip around the world!
