Lezlee & Jordan will provide a program of pop songs and bluegrass.  Lezlee Snow Monroe is a pianist, singer and songwriter. She is a Logan native currently living in Clearfield, Utah.   Jordan Snow started playing the banjo at age 12.  Twice he has placed first in the Utah State banjo competition for his excellence in banjo performance.  This is a “reunion performance” for Lezlee and Jordan.

 Karla Axtell - Organ & Piano
   Karla Axtell, organist and pianist, will playing the following organ pieces: a Widor Toccata, Bach Prelude in A minor and “Christ Lag In Todesbanden” from Bach’s small chorales, an American Folk Hymn Suite, a Patriotic Suite, and a Dale Wood arrangement of “Antioch”; she will also play Brahms “Intermezzo in A, op 118, No 2” on the piano.  Karla traveled to Italy in 2011 with the USU University Choirs where she accompanied the choirs at the organ in various cathedral performances.  She is currently studying organ with Lynn Thomas.  Karla is a rehearsal accompanist for the American Festival Chorus and has served as accompanist for numerous community events and soloists.  She received a bachelor of fine arts degree with piano emphasis from Utah State University studying under Gary Amano and Dennis Hirst.  Karla and her husband Bruce have six daughters, two sons, and 13 grandchildren.  Karla has produced two classical piano CD’s, “Quiet Garden” and “Intermezzo” as well as two CD’s consisting of LDS Hymns arrangements by local composer, Jay Richards, for orchestra and piano titled “Hymns of Faith”, Volume I and Volume 2.

Relic Acoustic Band - Pops from ‘60s & ‘70s

The Relic Acoustic Band is a group of local musicians who perform easy listening, acoustic oldies.  These veteran musicians are Irv Nelson, Scott Olsen, and Steve Roberts.  Their sound is fresh and their performances are entertaining.  With three guitars and three voices, they paint a musical landscape with their intricate harmonies. Their song list includes arrangements of favorites from the great artists of the 1960s and 1970s, such as The Beatles, The Eagles, James Taylor, Bread, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Kansas, and America --- songs that everyone remembers and loves from the “golden era” of popular music.  More information is available at www.relicacousticband.com.

Kermit Herd, Baritone
John Waldron, Harmonica

Kermit Herd has sung and performed

various roles in a variety of venues throughout the United States.  He attended USU and earned a MFA degree.  While a student, he sang three years with the Salt Lake Philharmonic Orchestra in their Days of '47 celebration.  He served four years in the Navy after graduating from Preston High.  


John Waldron will provide a three segment program: 1) Harmonica history, including types, and playing styles with examples; 2) Name that tune sing along; 3) Harmonica solos with cello and organ accompaniment.  As a young man, he found a harmonica, took it apart and cleaned it, and learned to play it and keyboards by ear.  He has played his harmonica on many scout outings.  John graduated from USU and spent his career working in electrical engineering, overseeing the installation of scoreboards and video message centers.

Sassafras Folk String Band
   Sassafras Folk String Band will present stunning vocals and a flawless mix of guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo and bass in styles of folk, old-timey and bluegrass with some contemporary and blues. The band has been performing for over 10 years at many venues including the Gallavan Center, Summerfest, the Intermountain Acoustic Music Society and Brigham Young Park. This all-woman group is known for it's tight harmonies and virtuosic fiddling. Members of the Sassafras are Betty Leishman, Genet Brown, Marianne Sidwell, Emily Miner, Kristen Day and Candice Kempton.

Incredible Youth: Pianists, Violinist, and Cellist
Rachel  Smith is a 12 year old pianist and will be playing Chopin's "Impromptu No. 1 in A flat, Op. 29" and Bach French Suite "Gigue in G major BWV 816".  She has been studying with Gary Amano since she was 8 years old.  She has won numerous top prizes in the USU piano competition finalist in the Beverly Sorenson Youth Music Festival 2013 and Utah Symphony Salute to Youth 2012.   She was named one of Utah State University Youth conservatory Outstanding Performers of the Year in 2014.  Rachel also enjoys swimming and reading.  She is bilingual in Japanese and English.  

Jennifer Ban, 15, will be playing Mendelssohn’s “Rondo Capriccioso Op. 14” and a duet with her brother.  She is a piano student of Luke Hancock, and has been playing at the Utah State University Youth Conservatory since 2007. Jennifer has won many awards at the USU Piano Festival was the piano soloist with two different orchestras last year.  Besides piano, Jennifer plays the violin and is the concert master in the Logan High School orchestra.  She often plays in recitals in the community such as Youth Conservatory, Tabernacle and assisted living homes.  She enjoys playing tennis in her school junior varsity team, skiing, hiking and cooking.

David Ban, 12, will be playing “Preludes Op 38. No. 1 & 2” by Kabalevsky, “Gardens in the Rain” by Debussy.  This year, David won the Utah Symphony Youth Guild Recital and performed twice as a piano soloist with two orchestras.  For the past few years, David participated in the USU Piano Festival and won top prizes and named as one of the Youth Conservatory Outstanding Performers. In 2013 David won first prize in the Weber State Piano Festival and was selected as one of the finalists for Utah Symphony Salute to Youth audition.  He is a student of Gary Amano.  David is a member of school math and debate teams.   Besides piano, he enjoys tennis, skiing, cooking and playing video games. 
  
 
 Andrew Johnson,17, will be performing “Romanza Andaluza” by Pablo de Sarasate, “Meditation” from Thais by Jules Massenet, and “Banjo and Fiddle” by William Kroll.  He has received Superior ratings at the State music competition the last three years.  He performs solos, chamber music and symphonic works.  Andrew has participated in both the Tacoma Youth Symphony in Washington State and the Utah Youth Symphony in Salt Lake City, and currently studies violin under Dr. Mark Emile of Utah State University.  When he isn't playing the violin or piano he is listening to music by his favorite composers.  Andrew has been accepted into the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony in Pennsylvania where he will be living this upcoming year. Andrew has been on the Mountain Crest tennis team and has competed at the State level the last two years.

 
 Charlotte Petersen will be playing the 1st movement of the “Sonata in G” by Sammartini, and “Scherzo” by van Goens, accompanied by John Price.  At the age of 5, Charlotte started learning to play the piano and violin.  At the age of 8 she switched to the cello. She loves music, especially when it involves other people. She currently studies cello with Dr. James McWhorter and this Fall plans to go to BYU-Idaho and study music education.  Charlotte runs track and cross country and loves to hike in the mountains, as well as bake desserts.

The Broadbent Family - Variety Program

   The Broadbent Family are  gifted musicians who share their talents with joy and enthusiasm; their program includes great music and lots of variety.  Merrilee is the arranger and artistic director of the group.  Richard will melt your heart with his rich baritone voice.  Michelle, a performance graduate of USU, BYU, and even BYU’s prestigious “Singer of the Year,” will thrill you with her gorgeous high notes and down-to- earth delivery. James, whose background includes everything from musical theater to opera, brings warmth and beauty to your favorite melodies. He and his talented wife, Annie, light up the stage with their love songs.  Christopher, age 14, is just plain fun.  The family is delighted to be part of the Tabernacle Concert Series this season.

Lorisa Pulotu

Lorisa Pulotu will sing a variety of songs from contemporary to the timeless classics.  Her program will include such favorites as The Very Thought Of You, Almost like Being In Love, When You're Smiling, Dream A Little Dream Of Me, Fly Me To The Moon, Stardust, and Blue Hawaii.  Pulotu has performed in a variety of different venues in Utah.  She has released various albums, including Bring Me Home (2013), Crimson Sky (2012), and her first Christmas album Starlight Christmas (2012).  Those who wish to sing, always find a song” is a quote which hangs in Lorisa’s personal recording studio.

She believes that no matter who you are, no matter what life hands you, no matter if you are rich or poor, old or young, music makes life better! Her experience has taught her that with hard work and determination you can achieve your dreams!  She attended Brigham Young University Hawaii were she obtained a degree in Home and Family Development and Early Childhood Education. She is the mother of five and has a great love for family. She is a teacher at Wee Friends Preschool where she and her sister have taught hundreds of children to read. She herself is an avid reader and has written her own novel entitled, Gravity: Daeshin’s Return, (soon to be published). Many of her musical albums are available on iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody, eMusic, Spotify, The Book Table, and KSM.

Ryan Frazier and Friends

Ryan Frazier and Friends will provide a program of piano and vocal selections from the works of Mozart, Handel, Bizet, Dvořák, and operas of Gilbert & Sullivan.  All of the performers work as adjunct faculty at USU.

Ryan Frazier balances a varied career as a soloist, collaborator, jazz pianist and teacher.  Emma Frazier plays the piano, guitar, organ and violin. Ryan and Emma Frazier both have Master's degrees in piano and are active performing in the community; they are the proud parents of three children.  Additional information at FrazierPianoFingers.com.

Laurie Hart is a high lyric soprano, teacher, and performer. She works for USU Vocal Performance Camp for Teens every summer and has been in many operas and musicals. 
Dana Slabaugh is also a high lyric soprano and received both bachelor and master’s degrees in music from University of Utah. She has participated in the International Vocal School at Promised Valley Playhouse and been a Utah Opera Young Artist with the Utah Opera Young Artist program.

Lightwood Duo -- Guitar/Woodwind Ensemble

The Lightwood Duo is the pairing of guitar and clarinet by master musicians.  Their musical programs include jazz, rock, Latin jazz, Celtic, film music, and the classics.  The variety of their repertoire is often a series of surprises and unexpected turns.  The Duo's successful sound is the result of their original arrangements that are unique and versatile. 
Guitarist Mike Christiansen is an emeritus university professor, and is an author/clinician for Mel Bay Publications and Consonus Music, with over 42 books and 38 DVDs and CDs in print. Clarinetist Eric Nelson is also a music educator, and has taught band, guitar and choir in the public schools for over 30 years.  
The Lightwood Duo began in 1992 and they have released six CDs and are often heard on the radio in the United States and in Canada.  The organizers of the Utah Arts Council’s Performing Arts Tours said “the unique sound of this amazingly versatile Duo is winning reengagements for them from coast to coast”.  
The Duo have performed extensively in the United States and have had several corporate engagements including the Sundance Film Festival and the Jack Niklaus Golf Tournament.

Fry Street Quartet


The Fry Street Quartet’s program will include works by Mozart and Bartok. The quartet is comprised of Violinist Robert Waters, Violinist Rebecca McFaul, Violist Bradley Ottesen, and Cellist Anne Francis Bayless.  Hailed as "a triumph of ensemble playing" (New York Times), Fry Street Quartet has reached audiences from Carnegie Hall to Sarajevo and Jerusalem, exploring the medium of the string quartet and its life-affirming potential with "profound understanding, ... depth of expression, and stunning technical astuteness" (Deseret Morning News).  The FSQ began its international career as cultural ambassadors to the Balkan States, with subsequent international concerts in Austria, Brazil, The Czech Republic, France, Italy, Mexico, and Slovenia.  The quartet holds the Endowed String Quartet Residency at the Caine College of the Arts at Utah State University.
