Cache Community Band

   The Cache Community Band program will include music selections from “The Music Man” and “Paint Your Wagon”, a patriotic tribute to our great nation, a salute to our veterans, and a few surprises!   The Cache Community Band has launched into a new era of musical excellence, from a parade band to a concert band of about 65 players. The band has been an active participant in community and cultural events throughout the area, and continues to enrich lives with exceptional concerts and programs.

Jeff Karren, organist

   Jeff Karren will be demonstrating the pipe organ's vast musical versatility, with an eclectic program that highlights the unique musical colors of Logan's Tabernacle organ.  Selections include not only classic organ works but also contemporary hymn preludes and nontraditional settings of well-known tunes.  A native of Cache Valley, Jeff is thrilled to perform on the instrument that first sparked his interest in pipe organs. Jeff Karren studies with Lynn Thomas, director of organ studies at Utah State University.

Craig Jessop, , “The Best of Beethoven”

   Craig Jessop will focus on the music featured in the upcoming “Best of Beethoven” Concert, including a discussion of the Choral Fantasy, Missa Solemnis and the 9th Symphony.  The concert will be presented on Wednesday evening August 6th at the Ellen Eccles Theatre in Logan, It  will feature the American Festival Chorus, soloists from the Utah Festival Opera and the Utah Festival Orchestra conducted by Craig Jessop.  
Dr. Jessop is the Dean of the Caine College of the Arts at Utah State University, Music Director of the American Festival Chorus, and former director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.  He has been on the American choral scene for more than thirty years.  Under Dr. Jessop’s musical direction, the Tabernacle Choir received numerous awards, including the National Medal of Arts.   He has recorded over 15 CDs on the Telarc and MTC labels with the Choir and most recently received a Grammy nomination for his work with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square.  In 2013, Dr. Jessop was the recipient of the prestigious Madeleine Award for Distinguished Service to the Arts and Humanities.

Michelle Broadbent, soprano

   Michelle Broadbent is happy to be returning this year to the 2014 Tabernacle Concert Series. Michelle graduated from Utah State and earned a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from BYU-Provo. She won the Concerto Competition at both universities and was BYU’s “Singer of the Year”.  In addition, she was a district winner and regional finalist in the prestigious MET Competition. She has studied and performed in Italy, as well as performing in England, Wales, Ireland, Russia, El Salvador and Guatemala.  Michelle is a gifted performer with a range of gorgeous high notes and rich low notes that lends warmth and beauty to the many genres of music that she sings. Michelle possesses the unique ability to span styles and genres, delivering brilliant interpretations that will touch your hearts and lift your spirits. She is currently a member of the voice faculty at BYU-Idaho.

This will be the final concert of the season featuring some of your favorite performers.  It is always a popular evening as we enjoy repeat performances from some of the best of best.  This is an evening you won't want to miss! 

THE CONCERT AND LECTURE SERIES IS SPONSORED BY  CACHE COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS AN INTERFAITH AND CIVIC ORGANIZATION, AND IS ALSO SPONSORED IN PART BY THE RAPZ TAX.  THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS ALLOWS FREE USE OF THE HISTORIC LOGAN TABERNACLE, AS WELL AS PROVIDING FINANCIAL SUPPORT.
