Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre
Singers and instrumentalists will perform their favorite  music in addition to previewing the upcoming UFOMT season.

Tuesday, June 18th, 12 Noon

Incredible Youth: 
Piano, Strings, Trumpet, Clarinet

These youth are all students of the finest teachers in the valley and will present an incredible program.

Shem Hale
Shem Hale  will be playing "Solo de Concours" by Andre Messager and "Clarinet Polka", a traditional Polish song.  Shem is the principal clarinetist in the Wind Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra at Utah State University for the past two years.  Shem is a sophomore and is studying Computer Science and Music Performance. His clarinet teacher is Nicholas Morrison.

Rachel Smith



Rachel Smith is 11 years old and will be playing Mozart Sonata K330 movement 1.  She has won numerous top prizes in the USU piano competition and was finalists for the Salute to Youth audition last year. She currently studies with Gary Amano. She is bilingual in Japanese and English.



The Mount Logan Middle School String Trio consists of 6th graders Daniel Kim (violin), Ethan McAllister (violin), and Emily Ransom (cello), coached by Claire Cardon. They have been performing together since the autumn of 2012, and were selected to perform at the 2013 ASTA Honors Recital.  Daniel also plays piano, swims on the Barracuda swim team, and enjoys reading. Ethan plays soccer, basketball, and is an avid reader.  Emily loves music and dancing, soccer, basketball, mountain biking, and hiking.  Both Daniel and Ethan study violin with Janice McAllister. Emily is a student of Julie Huppi.

Camie Yuan
Camie Yuan is an 8 year old piano player who will be playing Clementi’s Sonatina Op. 36, No. 2.  Besides her love for piano playing, she is a ballet dancer and an ice skater with the Cache Valley Figure Skating Club.  Camie also enjoys painting, computer games, reading, and collecting rocks. Her piano teacher is Luke Hancock.


David Ban
David Ban, 11, won first prize in the Weber State Piano Festival.  He has participated in the USU Piano Festival and won top prizes and also was names as on ot the YouthConservatory Outstanding Performers and received Spencer L. Taggart Memorial Award.  He is currently a piano student of Gary Amano.  Besides piano, David enjoys playing tennis, swimming, skiing, singing at school choir and playing video games. David’s favorite subjects are reading and science.

Jennifer Ban
Jennifer Ban, 14, has won awards at the USU Piano Festival and the Youth Conservatory, and was awarded Performer of the Year and the Spencer L. Taggart Memorial Award.  She was the piano soloist with the Lincoln Youth Symphony and Cache Symphony Orchestra earlier this year.  She is currently a student of Luke Hancock. Besides piano, Jennifer plays the violin and is actively involved in the Logan High School orchestra and a string quintet.  She plays tennis on her school junior varsity team, and enjoys skiing, hiking and cooking.

Steven Ban


Steven Ban, 16, has won many awards at the USU Piano Festival and has been awarded with the Spencer L. Taggart Memorial Award and Performer of the Year in the Youth Conservatory. Steven received one of the Siemens Advanced Placement Scholarships. He has been studying with Professor Gary Amano for 4 years and has been a student in Utah State University Youth Conservatory since 2007.  Besides piano awards, Steven has won many State and national awards in math and science competitions.  He enjoys skiing, playing tennis, swimming, reading and playing video games. 
  

Wednesday, June 19th, 12 Noon
Cache Community Band

The Cache Community Band will be performing well known music such as: Shenandoah, Pirates of the Caribbean, Stars and Stripes Forever, The Typewriter featuring guest typist Eric Nelson, and a special treat of a married couple performing a duet on tuba and flute. 
The band has been playing concerts and in parades throughout the valley since it was organized in 1976. They perform three or four concerts a year featuring the band and several of its outstanding musicians.  The band meets at the Logan Senior Citizen Center each Wednesday from 7:00-8:30 pm.  Any one interested is invited to join.


Thursday, June 20th, 12 Noon
Lightwood Duo: 
Guitar/Woodwind Jazz Ensemble

Lightwood Duo
The Lightwood Duo will present a wide variety of musical styles, including arrangements of jazz standards, classical, Brazilian, Broadway show tunes, and originals. The Lightwood Duo began in 1992 when guitarist Mike Christiansen and clarinetist Eric Nelson, members of the rock band "Mirage", got together to work on their jazz skills. A unique sound soon became evident, and the Duo began performing at various local events, followed by two decades of performances in Arizona, Nevada, California, Idaho, Montana, Hawaii, and New York City. The Duo has issued six CDs. Mike is Professor Emeritus of Guitar at USU, and Eric teaches band and guitar at Spring Creek Middle School.

Old Lyric Theatre Preview



Each week The Old Lyric Repertory Company come to the Tabernacle, they will preview some of this year’s theatre productions.  This will be their first week at the Tabernacle.  




The Concert and Lecture Series is sponsored by  Cache Community Connections and is sponsored in part by the RAPZ TAX and the Cache Valley Radio Group .  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints allows free use of the tabernacle
